Bulldawg Reef Juice – Species
Nannochloropsis (Nanno)
- Size – 2-5 microns
- Color – Green in color but a part of the golden/brown algae family.
- Nutritional Information:
- Nanno is rich in EPA, ARA, high in protein (over 50%), lipid composition, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, C, E, amino acids aspartic, glutamic, glycine, proline, lysine and leucine folic acid, pantothenic acid, and nicotinic acid.
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Nanno can hinder the unwanted growth of pest algae due to its quick growing and reproducing nature it can also. It is capable of binding to certain nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and heavy metals in your system to break them down and remove them from your system. Nanno is a great source of the pigment canthaxanthin, which is known to enhance red, yellow, and orange colors. Great food source for rotifers, brine, and filter feeders in general.
Thalassiosira (Thal)
- Size – 5-32 microns
- Color – Gold/Brown
- Nutritional Information:
- Thal accumulates certain lipids that are high in fat and oils, particularly omega-3 fatty acids that all marine organisms need, and amino acids, aspartic, serine, glutamic, glycine, threonine, alanine, proline, valine, lysine, and leucine.
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Thalassiosira (Thal) is a diatom phytoplankton species that feeds on the silicates in your system and outcompetes the benthic diatoms. Thal stimulates rapid rates of growth and repair as well. Thal can be dosed to outcompete nuisance diatoms. Thal is one of the larger species of phytoplankton making it a great choice for most filter feeders.
Chlorella
- Size – 2-10 Microns
- Color – Green
- Nutritional Information:
- Chlorella is rich in proteins, essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Their cells can accumulate a high amount of lipids, and it produces carotenoids, phycobiliproteins, and polysaccharides which possess various health benefits.
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Chlorella is a natural filter and nutrient recycler absorbing nitrogen compounds to improve water quality (reducing need for water changes) and provide a well-balanced diet for reef tanks. Chlorella supplementation has shown growth promotion and immune stimulation in aqua cultured fish and is used as an alternative to antibiotics to heal certain fish pathogens due to its antibacterial properties. Great food source for rotifers and daphnids.
Nannochloris
- Size – 1.5-2.5 Microns
- Color – Green
- Nutritional Information:
- Nannochloris contains a high amount of lipids (25% of weight) and a very large proportion of unsaturated fatty acids (over 80% of total fatty acids).
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Nannochloris also has a considerable number of antioxidants with chlorophylls and carotenoids. Has a rapid growth rate and is rarely outgrown in studies with other species. Efficient at pulling contaminants out of the water. Great food source for rotifers, copepods, clams, oysters and larval shrimp.
Chaetoceros calcitrans (Chaeto)
- Size – 10-20 Microns
- Color – Gold/ Brown
- Nutritional Information:
- Chaeto is rich in carbohydrates (20%). Contains high amounts of EPA, carotenoids, protein (35-40%), fat (30-35%), fucoxanthin and gallic acid content with significant antioxidant activity.
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Chaeto is a diatom species that is a great food source for Rotifers, clams, oysters, and larval shrimp.
Tetraselmis chuii (Tet)
- Size – 20 Microns
- Color – Green
- Nutritional Information:
- Tet produces cholesterols necessary for prolonged growth and immune function. Rich in carbohydrates (25-30%), protein (30%), amino acids aspartic, arginine, glutamic, glycine, alanine, proline, valine, lysine, leucine, and taurine, lipids, EPA, and DHA.
- Reef Benefits/Enhancers and General Information:
- Consumes Nitrates and phosphates and the amino acid arginine aids in blood circulation as well as the healing process making it a very beneficial species for your fish and corals. Great food for corals, clams, pod, brine, larval shrimp, oysters, clams and other zooplankton and filter feeding species!
